BookrestBook tracker app
Every book you read, and what it meant to you.
Bookrest scans a book's barcode or finds it by title, tracks print, ebook and audiobook progress, and keeps the quotes, characters and memories that make it yours.
Available soon. Explore the free demo in the meantime. No account. Works offline on your phone, tablet and computer.
A book tracker, not a spreadsheet
Not a spreadsheet: no typing every book, no locked cells, no setup on a computer, no Google or Excel account. Four themes, each in light and dark, and no app-imposed limit on how many books it holds.
Scan a shelf in a row
Point your phone at a book's barcode, or search by title or author: the cover, author, pages and series fill in by themselves. Scan several books without stopping.
Print, ebook and audio together
Track progress in pages, a percentage or hours, even on the same book. One reading keeps one position, whichever way you read or listen today.
A journal that remembers
Half-star ratings, spice ratings, reviews, quotes, characters, tropes and moods. "Previously" recaps your own notes when you start the next book in a series, and memories come back.
What should I read next?
A picker that tells you why: by mood, length, format and what you already have. Surprise me picks at random among the books that fit.
Up Next, series and your library
Monthly plans, priorities, a wishlist, upcoming releases and pre-orders; a series tracker with the missing books; owned, borrowed and library copies with due dates, who has it and what you paid.
Goals, figures and cards
A reading goal, bingo cards and prompt challenges, with no points or streak pressure; statistics, a reading calendar and your Year in Reading; share cards for a quote, a finished book or your year.
See it before you buy
The free demo opens a sample library, already filled in, with the same guided tour. Nothing is saved there, so change anything you like.
Private, offline, yours
Stays on your device
Your library stays on your device, with a backup file and CSV export you keep. The seller cannot see it. Device sync, when turned on, carries only an end-to-end encrypted copy between your own devices, which neither the seller nor the sync service can read.
Works without internet
Install Bookrest on your phone, tablet or computer and it opens like any app, with or without a connection.
Backups you control
Save everything, covers and photos included, to one file you keep wherever you like, and restore it on a new device. Sync is not a replacement for backups.

Good to know
Book search is online
Online search sends the words you type or the ISBN directly to Open Library and Google Books. Your library never leaves your device except, if you turn on device sync, end-to-end encrypted between your own devices.
Some books need a hand
Book details and covers come from those providers and can be corrected; some books, such as indie, Kindle-only and very new ones, need adding by hand.
Scanning has limits
Scanning needs camera permission and a compatible camera; typing the ISBN or the title is always available.
Due dates remind you here
Due-date reminders appear in the app and can be saved to your calendar; notifications while the app is closed are not guaranteed.
Room for your books
How many books it holds depends on the storage available on your device. There is no app-imposed book limit.
It is a web app
Bookrest is a web app on its own domain: not a spreadsheet, not a PDF, not an App Store download, and not connected to Goodreads.
Questions
Is there a subscription?
No. Bookrest is a one-time purchase on Etsy. There is no account and no monthly fee.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and Windows, Mac and ChromeOS computers, in the browser or installed like an app. On iPhone and iPad, install it before you enter anything: the Home Screen app keeps its own storage.
Where is my data kept?
Your library stays on your device, with a backup file and CSV export you keep. The seller cannot see it. Device sync, when turned on, carries only an end-to-end encrypted copy between your own devices, which neither the seller nor the sync service can read.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Once opened, Bookrest works offline.
Can I use it on more than one device?
Yes. Link your phone, tablet and computer with a six-digit code and they stay in step. Sync keeps your devices the same, not a backup: keep a backup file too.
Can I import my Goodreads or StoryGraph library?
Yes. Import a Goodreads or StoryGraph export, or any book spreadsheet saved as CSV, with no sign-in and no connection to those services.
Does it include ebooks or audiobooks?
No. Bookrest tracks books; it contains no ebooks or audiobooks.
Can it find every book?
Not every one. Book details and covers come from Open Library and Google Books and can be corrected; some books, such as indie, Kindle-only and very new ones, need adding by hand.
Which language is it in?
The interface is in English only.
